The Sony Wonder Technology Lab Introduces 4K Technology Exhibit Featuring PlasmaChem's Quantum Dots

PlasmaChem Quantum Dots at Sony NEW YORK (January 28, 2015) – The Sony Wonder Technology Lab (SWTL), a state-of-the-art, interactive technology and entertainment museum for all ages in mid-town Manhattan, unveiled a new exhibit that allows children and families to explore the realm of 4K, the innovative technology that is taking over the high definition digital media world. This exhibit is part of SWTL’s latest section devoted to key developments in technology and is located on the Lab’s Anytime/Anywhere ramp. Utilizing some of Sony’s latest technologies, the exhibit educates visitors on 4K while introducing quantum dots, the innovative science that sets 4K technology apart from previous imaging technologies. Stunning 4K footage of the New York City skyline provides a firsthand look at how TRILUMINOS™ display technology enhances images on a TV screen by producing a wider range palette of natural colors. An illuminated display of the unique nanomaterial known as quantum dots demonstrates the intensity of the technologies’ “glowing” colors, making images more vibrant and colorful. “The new 4K exhibit serves as a great example of our commitment to offering children and families an opportunity to explore the emerging trends in technology in a fun and interactive environment,” said Karen Kelso, Executive Director of the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. SWTL designed the exhibit in collaboration with Sony Electronics, Sony Mobile and Sony Creative Software. PlasmaChem, a German-based manufacturer and supplier of industrial nanomaterials and nanotechnology-based medical devices, provided the vials of quantum dot solutions and Crazy Duck Productions provided the 4K footage of the New York City Skyline. Children and families are also encouraged to check out various screenings in the Lab’s HD Theater, which features a state-of-the-art 4K home theater projector. Visitors can also explore all of the permanent exhibits located throughout SWTL, including Music Mixer, Robot Zone, Dance Motion Capture, Virtual Surgery and much more. The SonyWonder Technology Lab (SWTL) is a free, four-story, interactive technology and entertainment museum for all ages. Located in mid-town Manhattan, SWTL inspires creativity in a high-quality, engaging and family-friendly learning environment. By inviting visitors to experience the latest technologies in a hands-on setting, SWTL nurtures curiosity while awakening visitors to their own talent and potential. Through its permanent exhibits and innovative programs, including Sci-Tech workshops, ongoing screenings and associations with well-respected local non-profit and educational institutions, SWTL aims to educate and cultivate the next generation of leaders in media, science, technology and the arts. The SonyWonder Technology Lab is open to the public Tuesdays-Saturdays, from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., with the last museum entrance at 5:00 p.m. each day.
